Global Student Leadership Summit in France and Italy

On this trip, students will discover how France and Italy’s world-famous culinary methods are combining tradition with technology—and what it means for the future of food. Investigate how Paris feeds its ever-growing population and later, discover Lyon’s simple yet sophisticated approach to cuisine as you try your hand at a cooking class. Could modern innovation and European food history be a recipe for success?

Summit Leadership Conference:
This group will join other teachers and students from across North America and Europe for a two-day leadership conference, July 8–9. Students will hear from world-renowned speakers, attend expert-led workshops and gain valuable insight into how food connects plates, people, politics and culture.

Itinerary: 
 

Day 1: Fly overnight to France

 

Day 2: Paris

Arrive in Paris, France

Take a walking tour of Paris

With your tour director you will see:

·         Opéra District

·         Place Vendôme

·         Tuileries

·         Île de la Cité

Visit Notre Dame Cathedral

 

Day 3: Paris

Take a guided tour of Paris

With your expert local guide you will see:

·         Place de la Concorde

·         Champs-Élysées

·         Arc de Triomphe

·         Les Invalides

·         Eiffel Tower

·         Versailles

 

Day 4: Paris

Visit a Parisian Market

Visit the Louvre

 

Day 5: Paris • Lyon

Travel by TGV train to Lyon, France

Take a walking tour of Lyon

Attend a cooking class

 

Day 6: Lyon • Provence Region

Travel to Provence

Take a tour of Avignon

 

Day 7: Provence Region

Visit an organic lavender farm in Gordes in France

Enjoy a Provencal lunch

Visit the Pont du Gard

 

Day 8: Provence Region • Milan

Travel to Milan, Italy

Take a tour of Grenoble

 

Day 9: Milan, Italy

Conference Theme: The Future of Food

Keynote speakers for the 2017 Summit: Anthony Bourdain and Raj Patel

Conference Topics Include:

·         Feeding our Planet

·         Sustainability

·         Health and Wellbeing

·         Food Technology

·         Food Security

This is the opening day of the conference, beginning with a welcoming ceremony. Students will get to meet their teammates at a student activity.  Throughout the conference, students will use design thinking to work collaboratively in small international teams to tackle a challenge related to the summit theme. Students will use the design thinking process in order to develop innovative solutions to real global challenges.

 

Day 10: Student Leadership Conference in Milan

 

Students will hear from one of the keynote speakers. They also will attend the Innovation Sessions and workshops. The theme of this day is food technology, sustainability, and nutrition.

 

Day 11: Student Leadership Conference in Milan

Students will hear from the second keynote speaker, participate in the Innovation Village where students get to present their group projects, and attend workshops surrounding the theme of leadership.

 

Day 12: Depart for home

Transfer to Milan airport
