Itinerary:

Day 1 Arrive in China

Land in Chengdu, China. Meet your program leaders at the airport. Head to Dujiangyan (the hometown to the panda center), check into your hotel, and enjoy your first traditional Chinese meal.

Days 2 - 4 Explore the Panda Center

After your panda center orientation, you’ll split into smaller groups of 3-4 and dive right into your service project. Each group will be paired with specific pandas and researchers. The daily itinerary for your time at the Panda Conservation Center will be divided between direct interaction with the pandas and spending time with your group learning about general conservation topics, participating in in-depth discussions on the panda breeding program, and performing behavioral observations to learn how scientists conduct their research at centers like this one. During your time with the pandas, you can expect to care for their living area, plan and prepare their food, learn about their habitat, and examine threats to their environment.

Your evening activities will include a trip to downtown Dujiangyan, a traditional Sichuan hotpot dinner, a trip to the JIezi Old Town, and traditional team-time by the river.

Day 5 - 6 Enjoy Dujiangyan Conservation Areas

On day 5, we will explore the famous Dujiangyan Irrigation System. This Irrigation System was built in 256 BCE and this engineering feat continues to help the Sichuan Province today. Dujiangyan is the oldest and only surviving no-dam irrigation system in the world, and a wonder in the development of Chinese science.

On day 6, we will head to Mount Qingcheng. Mount Qingcheng is one of the most famous Taoist mountains in China. Dotted with ancient temples, the city-shaped mountain is considered “the most peaceful and secluded mountains under the heaven.”

Day 7 Explore Chengdu

Explore the 5th largest city in China, Chengdu. Stroll through the People’s Park, take a Tai Chi lesson, and learn more about Sichuan culture and customs. In the evening, attend a traditional Sichuan-style opera.

Day 8 Fly Home!

Depart for the Chengdu airport and fly back home.
