World Language Festival
Each year, students, families, and educators come together to celebrate DCPS World Languages at the annual World Languages Festival. In the past, the festival has brought over 300 DCPS stakeholders together to experience interactive sessions led by over 20 local and global partners. We are looking forward to continuing to provide the World Languages community with interactive and relevant sessions to further their practice.
Qatar Foundation International
DCPS Global Education was awarded a Qatar Foundation International grant to provide a full time Arabic language instructor at Kelly Miller Middle School in school year 2018-2019. Aligned with DCPS Global Education's goal to ensure aligned pathways to proficiency, this investment will allow students who move from C.W. Harris's Arabic language elementary program to continue developing their language skills and expand the language offerings for all Kelly Miller Middle School students. The grant will also help DCPS Global Education in realizing the 2020 goal of increasing the percentage of DCPS students studying a critical language to 25%.
Over 100 DCPS middle and high school students participated in the STARTALK DCPS Language and Culture Institute program during the summer of 2018. DCPS is pleased to announce the continuation of a summer school Chinese Language and Cultural Academy for students interested in learning or continuing their education in Chinese language and culture to take place during the summer of 2019.
Students who participate in this STARTALK funded program will receive 120-132 hours of Chinese language instruction, and will ear a 1.0 World Language Credit. The program will also consist of cultural field trips and activities. There are a limited number of slots available, so apply today!
